TENT – MEC APOLLO replaced October 2013 with the MSR Carbon Reflex 3

Why did we select this tent? Check out our post on  “Choosing a Tent” for touring.

CHAIRS – ALITE DESIGN Inc. MONARCH CHAIR sent home (great chairs though!

SLEEPING BAGS – MEC

Mike and I are both carrying down MEC sleeping bags rated to -10 C. We  also carry silk liners for three purposes 1. to cut down on washing the bags themselves; 2. for warmer climates, the liners will be fine to sleep in alone; and 3. as an extra layer for guest houses/hostels that don’t look so clean.

October 2012 note: switched out to our summer bags.

December 2012 note: switched back to our down bags for South America.

SLEEPING PAD –THERM-A-REST PROLITE   Therm‑a‑Rest Neoair XTherm Sleeping Pad x2

KITCHEN

STOVE – PRIMUS HIMALAYA VARIFUEL OMNIFUEL (replaced October 2013)

An item we’ve had and used for years on various trips. Our model is a few years older than the newest model (which has a simmer switch). This stove has the capability to use almost any type of fuel (very important for traveling through so many countries) including: white gas, kerosene, diesel, aviation fuel, and similar petroleum fuels.

UPDATE: Replaced October 2013. Our new model also can use butane canisters.

COOKWARE / COFFEE / SPICES -

DISHES – FOZZILSFozzils

These dishes fold completely flat. They are made of quality, food grade polypropylene material that is recyclable and are said to be virtually indestructible (I am sure we’ll put these to the test!).  The good guys at Fozzils have also sent us a prototype of their new silicone lined bowls to test out.
